1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.
Zeta Tau Alpha’s national philanthropy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Locally, the Gamma Tau chapter hosts numerous philanthropy events to raise funds for the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation and for groups within the Lubbock community. In Fall 2019, Gamma Tau hosted its first annual Big Man on Campus event, in which male students from the Greek community and other Texas Tech organizations competed in a pageant for the title “Big Man on Campus” all while helping us raise money for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. In the past, we have done different events to raise money, like Pancakes for a Cure, Crown Cookoff, and Cupcakes for a Cure. All proceeds from our events go to our philanthropy.
The Gamma Tau chapter is also involved in local service events within the community, such as the Lubbock Animal Shelter and The Hope Lodge.
Big Man On Campus
Big Man On Campus was our 2019 Philanthropy Event that we hosted during October. The event is a male pageant where men from various organizations on campus volunteered to compete against each other in front of a panel of judges. There was a talent portion, group dance, and a round of Q&A. At the end, we crowned a winner and all proceeds were donated to Breast Cancer Education and Awareness! The 2019 Big Man On Campus was Jacob Martin, representing Alpha Tau Omega.
